Our group went on a tour of the Legislative Palace today. It was perhaps one of the most beautiful buildings that I have ever seen. It is one of the staples of Montevideo. After experiencing this grand, beautiful masterpiece, I was privileged to experience one of the other staples to Montevideo. This one, did not have leaf plated gold adornments, nor did it have sculptures of marble surrounding it; actually, it could be scooped up delicately in one's hand. It was the precious goodness of a cortado! A cortado is a type of coffee drink that is served here in almost every restaurant and especially in every coffee house. After the large step of further entering the culture of Montevideo by entering into their pride and joy of the Legislative Palace, I took the tiny, yet intimate step of entering deeper into the culture through the tasting of a cortado.
